The Greatest Feud of All Time...

Ok, so it's the road to Wrestlemania.
Before i post my predictions/calls/bookings for the big event. I thought i'd go for my favourite wrestling feud of all time to whet the appetite.

Read and watch on. You all think that wrestling is 'fake'? Pre-determined yes, but not fake. Watch this.

Triple H vs. Mankind/Cactus Jack - 1999/2000
This was just amazing. It all started with the build up to the 2000 Royal Rumble, where HHH married Stephanie McMahon and took control of the (then) WWF. Then he won the title from BigShow and the feud with Mankind began...

Ok, that promo. It seems kind of normal, but watch the face of Triple H when Mankind announces it won't be him facing The Game at the rumble but it will be Cactus Jack.
Yeah that's just the same guy with no mask an a different shirt on. But his reaction made it seem like it was massive. And we believed it, we actually thought it was a metamorphosis The way it was done was so good. That's what made this match.

If Triple H would have just stared blankly it would have meant nothing.
That doesn't happen these days.
The build up to this, and getting the Rock involved made it even more anticipated.

So they fought at the Rumble, which was my favourite match of all time. Just brutal. This made HHH the man he is today. Fair play to both men. Anyone who says wrestling is fake, watch this. It may be 'choreographed', but the blood, the tacks, the cuts are 100% real.

Yeah he doesn't actually cut him with the barbed wire, but it is not bloodpacks.
Watch how fast Triple H blades (cuts himself above just below the hairline with a razorblade (hidden in his wrist tape) to make the blood come out faster) after the first barbed wire face shot. They just deal with the pain.

Take the time to watch all these videos, even if you've seen it before, you'll remember how amazing both these man are at what they do. Yeah it's entertainment, but there's nothing better.  Just watch, then tell me wrestling's shit. You'll get absorbed!

Probably not as much as me like.

Also a fact for ya - Obviously Triple H planned to blade (cut) his face in the match.  But the wound in his leg was NOT planned. That was not meant to happen, but he caught it on the pallets earlier on.  Fair play to Paul for that.
So here it is...

Watch it all - what else you gonna do, stalk people on facebook?. Yeah and you call wrestling fans sad......

That's not  fake pins/barbed wire/blood. All real, i promise. The referee is there as a medic to make sure they are ok. No-one can deny these guys what they did there.
Unbelievable. Who could top that....

Nobody but these two! Three weeks later in the Hell in a Cell was a rematch with Cactus Jack's career on the line. What could be worse than a 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire? Yeah that's right, a 2x4 wrapped in barbed wire set on fire!!!!
And a 20ft fall through the ring. Incredible.

So yeah??? What do you think is the best feud of all time???
 Maybe something that ran longer?

I picked this one because it got me from going to a kid who liked Austin and the Rock, to a real Wrestling fan. And years later I look back and realise how good this was.

Honourable mentions...

Hogan vs. Andre 87
Hollywood Hogan vs. Sting 96/97
Austin vs Rock 1999 & 2001
Undertaker vs. Kane (too many years to mention).
Chris Jericho vs. Dean Malenko (WCW in like 95, youtube it, best pop i've ever seen on TV)

Stay tuned, my mania picks coming soon....

Top Ten of 2010...

2010 is over, so it is customary to look back over the past 12 months, and here i've selected what i consider ten songs that made this past year.
Some you have heard, some you may not have.
But have a listen, you'll not regret it.

10. Robert Plant - Angel Dance
I was very sceptical when I heard RP was bringin another album out. Yeah i did love Raising Sand, but i thought he cant keep it up. Then I found out Buddy Miller was in his band. That meant it was gonna be an awesome album, Buddy Miller is the only guy i've ever seen live who played an amazing guitar solo, while singing, for like 6 minutes. This is the main track on the Band of Joy album - I know the critics loved it, but i can't bitch, cos it is that damn good. The video's cool too. Also i tried to learn the mandolin part and it was one of the hardest things in the world. I Still can't play it. enjoy....

9. The Len Price 3 - I Don't Believe You
Possibly the worst named band that emerged this year, my grandad's best mate's called Len - he's been dead twelve years. But believe it or not, these guys are new on the scene only young. Signed to Little Steven's record label, wicked cool records, they are trying to take rock and roll back to the 2 minute rocksongs of the who and the kinks. But this is a great song, and a great album. Very, very cool man.

8. Band of Horses - Factory
They've got beards, they supported Pearl Jam, they covered The Band. No surprises I like this band then. But yeah, they've finally got the recognition they deserve this year. Hopefully 2011 will be even better - they worked freakin hard. Once again, a quality tune. Americana is takin over the world in 2011.

7. Lady Antebellum - Need You Now
I heard this song before i knew what it was. Basically the product of Americas manufactured nashville county nicey-nice shite. But its actually good. I aint no hypocrite so it's here. Catchy country, still i'd rather have these at number one than anything that has anything to do with Simon Cowell. Bob Harris turned me on to this. Cheers Bob.

6. Richard Thompson - The Money Shuffle
I guess 2010 was the year i'd been looking forward to. After the banker's crisis shite, credit crunch (I always thought that was a breakfast cereal) the folkies we always going to get angry. I do love an angry folky. Here the legendary RT goes on a rant at those lovely banking city slickers. Bear in mind this guy has 1 guitar, amazing. 'I love kittens, and little babies, cant you see the kind of guy I am, and your money is so safe with me, you've never met such an honest man.'

5. Bellowhead - New York Girls
Folk music is now cool people, these guys are awesome. So yeah, bellowhead, their new album's only been out a month or so and this year will hopefully get them the success they deserve. This performance is good, but seeing them live is the thing. One of the best bands i ever saw. btw this is a traditional song, but given a remarkable rendition by this band. 13 or so musicians, all solo artists. Truly a supergroup.

4. Chris Wood - Spitfires
The grumpy man of folk finally did something amazing. His rant against the BNP that started the folk against facism movement. Just leaves me speechless...
It's not a coincidence how his left hand is placed on the guitar. Nick Griffin, go fuck yourself.

3. Elton John, Leon Russell & Neil Young - Gone to Shiloh
Say what ya want about old Elton, but musically, he is a genius. And his latest output, a collaboration with his hero, and all round legend Leon Russell proves it. This track, featuring none other than Neil Young himself is the highlight. Outstanding.

2. The Duke and The King - Shakey
The best gig i saw in 2010, Simone Felice is the coolest guy around right now.
What a band, what an album, what a song. A band where every member has an amazing voice,  and there's a hot girl playing guitar - always helps.

1. Show of Hands - Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed (AIG)
If you'd have told me last year that my favourite song of 2010 would be show of pants, I'd have laughed so hard I'd have given myself a hernia.
But once again, this is what happens when the folkies get angry. Typifies the bankers crisis, and a wierd video. Still, Phil Beer, with a name like that, either cut your hair or lose some weight. Not both though. My favourite song/video of the year.
That is all. Happy New Year Cockers.

Ten Wicked Cool Christmas Songs...

It's Christmas time, and there's plenty need to be afraid.
So if your petrified of hearing Mariah Carey one more fucking time, then you don't need to give up on christmas songs altogether. Here is your present from me, ten christmas songs that are freakin cool.
Enjoy...

10. Joe Pesci - If It Doesn't Snow for Christmas.
Pesci, of Goodfellas (and Home Alone) fame, one hell of a funny song.

9. Leadbelly - Christmas is a-Comin.
Blues legend Leadbelly, just a great singer. On his childrens album - one of the few ex-cons to have realeased a christmas album.  Recorded around 1941.

8. Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus is Comin' to Town
Just because he is the Boss. But seriously, wtf is Little Steven wearing on his head. Hilarious.

7. Corey Taylor - XM@$
Here's mr slipknot himself. Only heard this today on radio. I feel this way sometimes. Especially when I was in Manchester town centre today on the saturday before christmas - not a wise move. Needless to say i didn't last long. 'Fa la la la la go fuck yourself'. Possibly my favourite christmas line of all time.

6. Clarence Carter - Back door Santa
Ah, nothing like a good christmas innuendo.

5. Keith Richards - Run Run Rudolph
This is what christmas songs should be, blues mannn.

4. The Ramones - Merry Christmas (I don't want to fight)
Proof that a cool christmas song doesn't have to rebel.

3. The Brian Setzer Orchestra - Santa Drives a Hot Rod
Incredibly cool man.

and press the blue play button in the window thing - it'll be worth it.

2. Boss Martians - 3 Ghosts.
Ok the Muppets Christmas Carol was pretty cool, but hey, bet you never thought you'd hear Charles Dickens' masterpeice condensed into two minutes of rock and roll.
(Could only get a link to theire myspace)

1. Bob Dylan - Must Be Santa
Big surprise, I put Dylan top. But this song is cool because it's so out of character. And he wears some sinister wig in the video. Plain wierd, and for some strange reason which I can't explain - awesome.
Its christmas, just a little bit disturbing, And i like that.

So there we are. Now you don't have to sit through incessant ramblings of all that other shite.
Peace out.

61 Reasons to be thankful for Tom Waits...

A happy 61st birthday to a true great, actor, singer, soundsmith, whatever.
I don't know who said it, but they put it far better than I ever could...
"If America was a nation of circus freaks, Tom Waits would be Bruce Springsteen."
So sit back, stick on some of his classics, pour yourself a coffee or a brandy and crack open a 20-deck... Some of his most memorable facts, songs, quotes, photos and film/tv appearances...
Here we go, it's gonna get wierd....
Also, please remove your shoes when you enter and leave them by the door. No dogs allowed.

1. He claims he was born in the back of a taxi in Pomona California, popped out, had a shave then grabbed a beer.

2. His first album, Closing Time has Tom crooning like a jazz-singer, this was way before the voice became what he is now famous for. Check out 'Ol' 55' later a hit for the Byrds.

3. He says that the place he hates the most in the world is Disneyland - he said it primes kids for Las Vegas.

4.  He sued Doritos for copying his style on an advert which ripped off his song 'Step right Up'. And won the case!

10. Tom on Keith Richards - 'He's been borrowing money from me for so long that I had to put a stop to it. He's a gentleman, he came into the studio and took his hat off and all these birds flew out.'

11. The lyric 'The moon ain't romantic, it's intimidating as hell.'

12. He once opened for Frank Zappa.

13. The fanastic wierdness of Rain Dogs, from the film BigTime... Some nice dancing too, and the accordian player is cool as.

14.  He loves climbing trees.

15.  He was even on family guy...

16. 'You know, I don't like straight lines. The problem is that most instruments are square and music is always round'

17. He has a guitar made out of a 2x4 plank of wood he bought in Cleveland. He said 'You know in Iraq, you can't have a guitar in the window of a music store because it's too sexy, you know the curves. So I could go over there with these 2x4 guitars and really take the country by storm.'

18. The song Tom Traubert's Blues (Four Sheets to the wind in Copenhagen'. About throwing up in another country!

19. He makes smoking look like an art-form.

21. 'I don't get played on the radio. Marcel Marceau gets more air play than I do'

22. God's Away on Business - why is he in this video in a room with a load of emus! Awesome.

23.  No matter how wierd he gets, he can also shock you with something just as beautiful and calming. Some of the best love songs ever written.

24. Ralph the dog on Sesame street was modelled on him.
25. "A gentleman is someone who can play the accordian, but doesn't"

26. His recent collaboration with rapper Kool Keith.

29. 'In washington, it's illegal to paint polka dots on the american flag'

36. "I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things."

37. "We are buried beneath the weight of information, which is being confused with knowledge; quantity is being confused with abundance and wealth with happiness.

We are monkeys with money and guns"

38. "You can learn a lot about a woman by getting smashed with her."

39. "I've never been a fan of personality-conflict burgers and identity-crisis omelets with patchouli oil. I function very well on a diet that consists of Chicken Catastrophe and Eggs Overwhelming and a tall, cool Janitor-in-a-Drum. I like to walk out of a restaurant with enough gas to open a Mobil Station."

40. His appearance with Iggy Pop in the film Coffee & Cigarettes.

41. Toms appearences on Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour. Just brilliant from two absolute legends.

42. He even tells childrens storys...

43. "Most of the people I admire, they usually smell funny and don't get out much. It's true. Most of them are either dead or not feeling well."

44. His album Raindogs, one of my personal favourites. It switches between tender and melodic, to plain wierd.

45. The percussion on the song 'Earth died Screaming'. It's just like banging two sticks together.

46. On nighthawks at the diner, when he says 'I'm so horny, the crack of dawn better watch itself around me.'

47. (When asked for advice for younger musicians) "Break windows, smoke cigars, and stay up late. Tell 'em to do that, they'll find a little pot of gold."

48. He played the Devil in The Imaginarium of Dr Parnaccuss, the last film with Heath Ledger in.

49. As heard in the intro to Train song on BigTime...
"All right. Actually I get asked... Well... look, I think the question I get asked the most is... I mean, it happens a lot. Enough that I would remark on it. A lot of people come up to me and they say, 'Tom, is it possible for a woman to get pregnant without intercourse?' And my answer is always the same. I say, 'Well, listen. We're gonna have to go all the way back to the Civil War.' Apparently, a stray bullet actually pierced the testicle of a Union soldier, and then lodged itself in the ovaries of an eighteen year old girl, who was actually a hundred feet from him at the time. Well, the baby was fine. She was very happy, guilt free and... Of course, the soldier was a little pissed off. When you think about it, it's actually a FORM of intercourse, but... not for everyone. Those who love action maybe." (Transcribed by Ulf Berggren. Tom Waits eGroups discussionlist, 2000)

50. Bruce's Version of Jersey Girl (alright i'm still not sure whose i prefer actually, but they are both amazing)

51. "In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king."

53. Ok heres one for all you fans of 'The Wire'

54. This photo...

55. He recorded his own version of the Dwarves song from snow white, heigh ho...

56. All stripped down sounds like Ned from South Park...

57.  He even rocks the christmas lights...

58. His voice was described by critic Daniel Durchholz as sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourdon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car."

59. He takes himself out on dates - The Heart of Saturday Night

60. He even does christmas songs...

61. And we'll finish with this one, - seeing as it is his birthday...

Thanks again. Hope you like. Come back, have a watch.
